The Hillary Clinton Forum on Palin

advertisement

So, you may be asking yourself: is the Sarah Palin pick going to move any Hillary voters over to John McCain? To answer that question, I headed over (after being told about a link at Right Wing Sparkle) to the Hillary Clinton forum and looked at a thread called "Sarah Palin is McCain's VP selection!!"

So, let's see if Hill's fans are all sticking with Barry or if some of them are swayed at all by McCain's selection of Palin....

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

if Palin wasn't perceived as such a a threat to Obama's campaign the extreme left-wing radicals wouldn't be attacking her like this, especially with such venom. As one TV commentator said today, a new barrier has been broken this weekend. The families of candidates were left alone...until this weekend. I think Obamamaniacs sense Palin as a real threat and the convulsions have started. Oh, by the way, they probably also hate her because she actually lives the pro-life message and wants to see ALL human life, from the moment of fertilization until natural death protected by law.

Wow. Half of the women on the forum sound insane; the other half, illiterate. I wonder what they've done with the real Hillary Clinton supporters? These women think that the election was only about them and don't give a damn about the issues. Voting out of spite is the mark of an idiot.

It's not necessarily Operation Chaos. It could just be conservative women who were crossing party lines for the sole shallow reason of seeing a woman elected. Judging from the tone of some of those postings, this pick didn't sway them to picking McCain - he would have got their votes anyway - but reinforced their choice.

Moronic responses like some of the ones above worry me...the woman who says " she has 5 kids...trust me she knows how to run a country", should be ashamed of herself. By that logic, why not elect an amish woman with 18 children and counting? Conservative right wing nuts will run the nation into irrelevancy in the next decade if their candidates continue to win. The woman who is running to Alaska to volunteer should maybe stay put and get a first hand look at the effects of global warming and then decide whether she wants her children and grandchildren to inherit the devastations of her moronic choice!!

Why don't we mention how Obama, while an Illinois Senator, voted against a bill which would have mandated that abortionists save a baby accidentally born alive after an abortion? This gives you a view into Obama's "compassionate" "tolerant" "unifying" progressive" "liberal" heart. Obama even said National Right to Life was lying about his vote. When NRL revealed the documentation about his vote, OBAMA PUBLICLY ADMITTED THAT HE "MISREPRESENTED" (AKA: LIED) HIS RECORD ON THE ISSUE!!! QUITE A HUMANITARIAN, THAT GOOD-LOD OBAMA IS!!

I tried to sign up for the forum. Got the confirmation email, did what I was supposed to do, but was greeted with a message that I had to go through yet another approval process. I guess they're not big on freedom of speech. They want wall-to-wall anti-Obama posts with no dissenting voices.

I would just LOVE to ask them about this whole Palin pregnancy ordeal. How many women are going to support someone who goes into labor prematurely, is already high-risk at the age of 44, then boards a freaking plane to go from Texas to Alaska because, ""You can't have a fish picker from Texas."

Of course, it's looking more and more like Palin is covering up for her 16 year-old daughter. Generally, this kind of thing is none of our business, but either the woman is reckless or she's lying. NO THANKS! Been there done that for the last 8 years!

I agree. Talk about poor judgment. Any woman who gets pregnant at 43 is at high risk and if that forum is going to vote on her platform just because she's a woman I think they also have poor judgment. However, I still hold out hope that the majority of women are more concerned about their children and families and mature enough to weigh the issues carefully. I raised four kids and had to work and I don't feel I would be qualified to run our country just for that reason.

Did you even think about that statement before your wrote it? Do we now put an age limit on women having kids? No more kids after 35? Get pregnant after that and your exercising poor judgement? Perhaps we should go the route of China and limit how many kids we can have.

If you reley stop and think about it.

Population on Illinois roughly 12,700,000 / 21 reps from Illinois. Obama Represents 604,000.
Population of Delaware roughly 830,000 / 3 total reps from Delaware Biden represents 275,000
Population of Alaska 644,000 Palin represents 644,000

So who truly represents more people.

Alaska Business Monthly: We've lost a lot of Alaska's military members to the war in Iraq. How do you feel about sending more troops into battle, as President Bush is suggesting?

Palin: I've been so focused on state government, I haven't really focused much on the war in Iraq. I heard on the news about the new deployments, and while I support our president, Condoleezza Rice and the administration, I want to know that we have an exit plan in place; I want assurances that we are doing all we can to keep our troops safe. Every life lost is such a tragedy. I am very, very proud of the troops we have in Alaska, those fighting overseas for our freedoms, and the families here who are making so many sacrifices.

McCain, Obama and Biden are US senators and, as such, they don't only represent the people of their respective states, but they must make decisions regarding the country as a whole. So they represent more people than Palin.

She may have "executive" experience (1.5 years), but as she let us know, she knows about Alaska. She's not all that informed about Iraq.

Palin may only have 1.5 years of executive experience but that is 1.5 more years than Obama & Biden combined. Senators are sent to represent their constituents, and if they are doing there job that is what they are suppose to do. Even though they make decisions that affect everyone they only answer to those in Illinois. So they truly only represent those of Illinois. While Governor Palin answers to her entire state.

Your math is completely wrong. Obama and Biden are U.S. Senators, and as such, they represent the entire population of their state, not an apportioned district. Even if you wanted to divide the state population in half to represent each state's 2 Senators, Obama still represents about 6 million more people than Palin does.

That hillaryclintonformum.com site is still closed to lurkers, and last time I was there I saw at least 400 comments, probably many more, 99% whooping and cheering Palin, promising to donate, volunteer, and vote Republican for the first time in their lives. There were several comments about Rice and Powell, excoriating the Dems for hypocricy for ever having accused Republicans of being racists and sexists, professing the realization that it's the Dems that are the real bigots, etc., etc. Truly a sight to see.

      Happy Reading

I'm waiting for the Misogynists For Obama sites to pop up. I hear that white supremacysts are already falling in line behind him, for their own perverted reasons of course.

It's so unfair. Obama took some pains in navigating the PC minefield when running against Hillary. McCain just made all that effort meaningless with the Palin pick. Or is the message from Democrats that only Liberal/Leftist strong women are worthy?

Palin is One Of Us, making her perhaps uniquely qualified in a time when voters have had quite enough of being told by elites how to live their lives, what cars to drive, what foods to eat, what temperature they should keep their homes at, what words are acceptable, and what special self-interests deserve the special anointing of the political Left.

I don't want "one of us" running the country. I want someone smarter than you, me, and everyone else for that matter. I'd gladly have taken Romney who built companies and made hundreds of millions than someone who squeaked into the Governor's office with 47% of the vote. I want someone who's been a devoted public servant and understands the depth and breadth of the policy decisions that have to be made -- both foreign and domestic. I want a vice president who doesn't have to "learn at the knee" of John McCain. What happened to ready on day one?

It's all well and good for a privileged woman like herself to say that a 13-year-old girl raped by her father must suck it up and have the baby, no matter the devastating impact it would have on her life and future.

McCain's VP pick is not only the ultimate act of desperation, it is an enormous insult to American women. Does he really think that choosing a (woefully underqualified) woman as a running mate will counterbalance his repeated votes against legislation supporting equal pay in the workplace? This is a man who had an extramarital affair with an heiress half his age - see, he has a history of using women as tools for his own advancement. Whose money do you think bought all those houses?

The bottom line: I will be ashamed to count myself among American women if this ploy succeeds in pulling the female vote over to McCain. I always thought we were smarter than that. (For the moment, I believe we are.)

Not only does she oppose abortion in all cases, Palin also opposes the use of condoms and birth control, even for married couples.

Does MCain really think women are so easily moved about like pawns on a chessboard -Trying to attract the Clinton followers with Palin not on your life-

I see Palin as merely an aggressive woman =As one who raised a special needs child=I am amazed that she would leave the side of 4 month old Downs Syndrome baby and leave the care to others plus the added strain on the other children of the family in coping with the little newcomer and its very special strain it puts on the family=

But then again I am thinking like a mere woman and Mother==Guess what McCain there are many out there just like me

I looked up the Hillary Clinton Forum ~ and I laughed. It is time to watch C-span and listen to the elected officials myself. You can find online every elected official's voting record. Just make sure that you read the House and/or Senate bill and their amendments before you cast a judgement as to why someone rejected a vote or whatever. There are lots of "other" items included in these bills that have nothing to do with the bill itself.

If you solely rely on your FOX/CNN/MSNBC or all these blog sites then there is no way in the world you are making an educated decision on who your candidate might be. We are also voting for other people than just the Presidency. Look at your local levels, your mayor down the road might run for a spot in your senate etc. etc. Get involved in all levels of elected officials.

Well after all the calls of Foul Play and lay off all you people on Family Values..okay lets put it to the test.

I find it interesting the flood of lies and smears against American Muslims and other hateful
slurs including the false claim that Obama is a Muslim or that his father is an Atheist therefore evil. But Woah, don't say anything against Sara Palin or her 17 pregnant daughter, or McCain's 15 min decision to pick her. OR you're a sexist. I'm a conservative independent and I am religious. I'm also one who believes that's a private matter too. I am a woman, mother of two and businessperson. I am so sickened of hypocrisy here and the absurd attempt to have the lunatic fringe say that they speak for women like me.

                      A. From the beginning, if Palin were a man...this person is still be unfit for holding one of the highest seats in the nation yet is being treated special because Biden will be called a sexist if he is tough while debating. Ask any CEO man or women if they use this as a hiring example for their top positions.

                      B. Shot Gun weddings are private even if it's a way the farthest Wings on the Right deal when their stoic Christian values fail them. I believe the term was "American Family" with indignation, coming from the McCain camp. Reminding us that Obama's mother who was 18, a legal adult was unwed too, but what's troubling here is they fail to see that Obama's mother wasn't running as VP. Well, I agree how family members stray or act shouldn't be a focus. Maybe the far Right should follow their own advice and apologize for all the Obama family bashing of Michelle and his father and mother.

                      C. The question is being a Hypocrite with all the things pointed out above it makes it even harder for progressive Christians to be respected and I find that offensive. Being a politician a VP can push for and pass laws that will effect your children too. Christian Creationism in Science class as another theory. Pro-Life without any exceptions, including survival of mother who planned pregnancy. Abstinence only. What of these concerns.

Did I mention, perhaps Christians should also be forgiving and open minded to homosexuals who are monogamous and who are very productive, pay taxes and are God loving or are they too focused on imaginary sordid fantasies that they refuse to grant them the respect and privacy they and their straight supportive families deserve. Give them the right to choose a married for life option.

Darnell: the woman-hater s in here - mostly women it seems - don't care about a woman on the ticket...they never have. The ONLY legitimate woman for them is one who says it's ok to rip apart an unborn child piece by piece. It's all about abortion...not women.

I am a Hillary Clinton supporter because she stands for my values - Right to Choose, Healthcare for everyone, etc. Because she is a woman, on the right side of the issues, was a bonus.

Sarah Palin stands for everything I fear will happen to this wonderful country - removing books from libraries she finds offensive (she asked the librarian how to remove books from the library), drilling in Protected areas in Alaska when Oil companies are not drilling in areas they have rights to now despite huge Oil company profits, advocating and denying teen children in Alaska of child bearing years information on avoiding pregnancy, denying a woman's right to choose, Being a Governor of a State who gets Oil Money and still takes Federal Government funds and has yet to truly balance a budget - avoiding an opportunity to save for a rainy day. She appears to me to be a Party girl rather than a serious candidate for Vice President.

I considered voting for John McCain because of my concerns about Obama, but with Obama's choice of Joe Biden who I have always admired for his work on the Crime Bill and positions on international matters, I will vote for Obama/Biden.

What is this country coming to that we might not be able to kill our young anymore!!! You convinced me, I'm voting for Obama...and another good thing about him...he won't let those damn hospitals and clinics save those babies accidentally born alive after an abortion...his laws will make sure they suffocate on the table until they die!! What is truly sad is trying to have an intelligent discussion with a one issue person who does not begin to understand all of the ramifications of the issues involved. Being older than you, and I am sure I am, as I was around when abortions were considered illegal in most states and women took pills, used coat hangers and other methods to abort because, whether you want to admit it or not, women do make the final decision in matters of their own bodies.

What is at issue here is whether pregnant women will have equal rights under the law, and be able to obtain counseling about options open to her, and whether she will be able to arrive at a decision with the help of a Licensed Doctor who can provide the best care for her no matter what her decision.

Sarah Palin wants to deny women these rights to counseling and Medical help, as do many Men who believe this is yet another way to "control" women.

They want us to go back to using the "old wives tales" about taking pills, douches, coat hangers to abort...or do we vote for Women's rights???

I forgot, You believe in fairy tales where you can legislate away women's rights - dream on - The location of the abortion is the only thing that changes when you take away a woman's right to choose...

I worry that women will jump off of the Democratic boat and vote McCain/Palin just because Palin is (an alledged) woman. Are American women that stupid? God I hope not.
                                I can't handle 4 to 8 more years of the B.S. that's gone on.
Frankly, Palin makes me want to gouge her eyes out with my thumbs. Maybe if she didn't oppose sex education in schools...little Bristol wouldn't be knocked up!

One more thing......Pro-Lifers, if there was a possibility that men could get pregnant, abortions would be available on every corner. Stop dictating what a woman can do with her body.

you are proving Linda that "feminism" was never about all women, but just the so-called "liberal" women. Your brand of extremist feminism leaves out millions of women who are wise enough to know that one does not sacrifice their unborn children on the altar of "freedom." Abortion is not freedom, it is bondage. Oh, by the way, while abortion frees no one, just for the sake of argument I'll use the word freedom: abortion has not freed women, but it has freed men to act sexually irresponsible, get the women the abortion and then he can move on to the next girl...leaving her with the scars. Thanks Linda for freeing us men to use women! You go girl!!!!!

I am a Hillary supporter and I looked at the comments on this site and in my opinion they largely sounded like they were posted by young Republicans who would never have supported Hillary in the first place. Anyone especially a woman who was a strong supporter of hers would ever vote for McCain soley on his choice of Sarah Palin whom is in no way a replacement for Hillary and her support of women or womens rights in the country. For the most part all the women I know who are staunch supporters are disappointed in some regards that their choice is cleary Obama. Had McCain chose a more moderate VP and one with more experience he may very well have picked up us Hillary supporters.

                                          Here are my thoughts.

                                          1. PUMAs are for real. Democrats ignore them at their peril.
                                          2. Sarah Palin is a principled, tough woman whom I would trust to protect America against the likes of Iran and Putin, much more than Obama who is a serial waffler.
                                          3. Palin is a member of the Feminists for Life group which is anti-abortion, but PRO-Contraception. (Do your research before posting lies about her).
                                          4. She has never let her personal opposition of abortion interfere with her job of running the state. As governor she rejected proposed legislation that would have restricted abortion. Members of her own party wanted that legislation slipped into another bill. She said "no." She has stood up to her own party and worked with Democrats to accomplish important reform in Alaska. She puts the Constitution first and has said that the Constitution is her "bible." (Again, do your HOMEWORK before making judgments about Palin.

This election is about character, not party.

And the PUMAs have my respect for seeing through to the candidate's character.

I love the Hillary Clinton forum. It is honest and refreshing. These are lifelong Democrats who are taking a principled stand against the abuses in their own party. They're mavericks -- just like Palin and McCain who aren't afraid to rip into Republicans.
