Well, iPhone 1.1.1 has landed and reports of what works and what broke are flying in. I manually restored my iPhone to a factory fresh 1.0.2 state this weekend to clean out all the hacks and apps I had been playing with, so updating to version 1.1.1 just now went smooth as butta'. However, there's a lot of third-party stuff out there that
Apple might have brokenmight need to update for the new firmware, so this will serve as a continually updating post on what works, what doesn't and what just might brick your iPhone.
Basically, a 3rd party app or carrier now bricks the iPhone. Surprise surprise.
Ringtones (3rd party ones) are also gone. Unless you're using iTunes 7.4.1.
You can't relock your iPhone if you used anySIM. If you've unlocked it, don't upgrade. Period. iPhoneSIMfree users might, though.
And iPodHiFi doesn't work with the iPhone anymore. Huh?
Ok... this no third party app stuff has got to end. I want to use my GTD app, and I'd like to use my phone for a tethered connection with my MacBook Pro.
Come on, Steve. You are letting me down...
I think Apple knows they can't really STOP you from doing it, because in time someone will crack it and you'll be able to just put third party stuff back on... Apple just wants it to not be worth your time an effort to do it. Sony did that with the PSP for the first year it was out... always going back and updating it, adding some retarded feature that really wasn't used when all they really wanted to do was break the emulators that people had on them.
of course what Apple will do is release their own version of the things that people are going off and putting on their phones... adding an "i" in front of it and calling it "perfect"... such is the way of Apple.
