People love software portability. You know, checking your email from anywhere in the world, ect. There are several different kind of online operating systems. Over the next few weeks, we'll review these:
Cross-platform, working. This includes eyeOS, Purefect Desktop, Orca (IE6 only) and YouOS.
Flash 9 only (So Linux can't use it). This includes Desktoptwo and goowy.
Ghostware. This includes Fold and WadgetOS.
Not Yet Released. This includes ajaxOS and XIN.
Emulators. This includes Free Live OS Zoo (Java, appletviewer, or a VNC viewer required), System 7 (requires Flash), the unix emulator, and WorkSpot (emulates Linux). Plus, there's an intranet WebOS called Fenestela (developed by Orca).

Interesting, any open source ones?
XIN is sorta open source - it's an xml format, and anyone can write their own apps for it.
All you need to do is to sign up for it at 'xinteleport.com' and get on with it.
You'll get an email with a few questions, and then the info needed to start.
However, it's not open source in the way that we give it all away without asking for something in return.
We want apps in return..lots of apps.. systems like this benefits from new apps more than anything.
New developers gets access to the previous apps, to reuse or rewrite, and wont have to reinvent the wheel for similar tasks in new apps, and the users just gets more apps to play with.
Hello,
I'm the conceptor of Fenestela. This WebOs is not an Orca's product, but a french software. At the difference of YouOS or some others webos, you can install it on your own web space (like the free personal pages provided by the FAI) and you can manage this space with the same functions and interface than Windows. It works with any OS (PC, Mac , Linux) with any browser. The source code is avalaible with the installation, so you can add your own php applications or customize the interface.
Try it, it's free! www.fenestela.com

You're in Easy Mode. If you prefer, you can use XHTML Mode instead. |
